Antique Toy Train
Fundraiser for Freehold Open Door
November 23,
2008
On
November 23rd we
organized another train display to benefit the Freehold Open Door. Due to the
huge success of the event held in February 2008, we were asked to help out
again. Once again the Clubhouse at Knob Hill Country Club was donated for our
use. We were able to get in there on Saturday night to begin setting up the
tables and bringing in layouts. An extra added display this year was a Christmas
morning scene set in the early 1950's. Completing the scene was a custom built
fireplace and mantle built by Jim Reid just for the display. Add that to an
aluminum Christmas tree, rotating of course, along with a color wheel, vintage
toys, period decorations including Noma Bubble Lights and of course a train
running around and you have the hit of the day.
The
trains displayed ranged from 1897 Carlisle & Finch all the way up early
1970's Lionel. A total of 5 operating layouts plus an operating accessory
display, built for the event by Dave Decker, kept everyone busy.
Once
again, Bob Gassaway donated a Lionel train and layout to be auctioned off in a
Silent Auction.
Close
to $1000 was raised along with over 18 crates of food.
It
couldn't have been possible without the help of the following:
